Who is John Norman?

Snapshot of industry expertise:

John Norman has been working, training and assessing people in the outdoor recreation sector since 1976. John's involvement (past and present) has/is with several committees including the Industry Advisory Committee to Service Skills Australia, Outdoor Council of Australia, Outdoor Recreation Industry Council of NSW (ORIC), Standards Australia, Climbing Gyms Association and the NSW Sport & Recreation Industry Standing Committee advising on Outdoor Recreation and Outdoor Education matters and assisting with the development of industry practices and sector projects.

  • Over 20 years involvement in Training Package development, consultation and modification, since 1994
  • 30 years acting as an "expert witness" in numerous court cases throughout Australia in different levels of the legal system, and WorkCover/ Worksafe enquiries and the Department of Defence internal enquiries
  • Consultant to the NSW Police department on the content of course structure for the Mountain Biking division
  • An active participant in the outdoor recreation sector covering all the "skill sets" and activity groupings, since 1968

    - Canyoning single and Multi pitch

    - Caving, single and Multi pitch since 1968 developed and undeveloped caves in Australia and Borneo

    - Challenge Ropes low and High

    - Bushwalking, intermediate, uncontrolled, arid, tropical, 

    - Cycling on and off road at all levels
    - Mountain Biking at all levels

    - Fishing- in and off shore, on shore and charter boats

    - Kayaking - Recreational and Competitive
    - Sea Kayaking - Recreational

    - 4WD Instructor
    - Testing vehicles and proofing 4WD trips for Overlander magazine

    - Personal Watercraft  (also known as Jet Ski)

    - Skiing, Downhill and Cross Country since 1976

    - SCUBA Diving 18- 30 meters, in Australian and International waters

    - Snorkelling  and  Surfing since 1976

    - Vertical Rescue both recreation and industrial

     

  • Over 40 years working in the Business and Outdoor Recreation industry sectors
  • Over 35 years involvement in writing Business Development, Operations, Policies and Procedures
  • over 35 years involvement in Sport and Sport Coaching development throughout Australia
  • Has an intimate knowledge of Training Package and the complex packaging requirements and variations allowable within some Industry Sector Training Packages.
  • A broad industry network of providers, registered training organisations and practitioners. These people are situated through all States and Territories of Australia and not specific to one region or sector, therefore giving the National perspective to the development of documentation and outcomes.

Work Experience and Qualifications:

    2014 CEO John Norman Consultancy Consultant for the Outdoor Recreation industry both in Australia and Internationally, consulting on issues such as training, legal issues and advice, development and consultation of Training Package Development and the development of Outdoor Rcereation program etc
    2000 Above and Below Adventure Company - Principle Assessor Registered Training Organisation ( RTO) , Trainer and Assessor for the Sport Recreation & Fitness package, incorporating Ourdoor Recreation.
